They voice their opinions: “You’re not going to get anywhere near the peak with a vehicle, due to its steep roads.” Obviously, utterances of this nature have more of a challenging than a warning effect. As a result, we make our way across the breathtaking landscape. The narrow piste surrounded by verdant steep slopes as we make our way up, round tight curves and bends. Gravel, sand and scraggy rocks make up the ground underfoot, brooks and streams flow across paths – gullies and ditches are everywhere to be seen.
As we get higher, the ground becomes ever looser and there is much debris. Nevertheless, metre by metre, our four by four grinds its way up and up. At 5pm, we stand 2,865 metres up, at the point of our desires: the Sani-Pass has been tackled, and there has been no damage to any of the cars.
